Israel Vows No Let-up on Bombing Gaza as Palestinian Death Toll tops 170

Israeli bombings on the Gaza Strip

Israel continues to bomb as defiant Hamas continues to send lower technology rockets at Israel. No Israelis have been killed as a result of rockets sent by Hamas. Israeli bombs have killed over 30 children. Civilians have been bombed at charities, parks and a mosque.

The United Nations estimates over 80% of the casualties are civilians. According to Democracy Now over 940 homes have been destroyed and 1200 people have been injured as a result of the bombings.

Thousands of residents have fled Gaza upon receiving warning from Israel of pending bombings. An Israeli leaflet said “any moving body after noon will be stuck.” Israeli bombs have also killed disabled citizens at the Center for the Disabled.

Israel has ignored international concerns for a cease fire. UN Spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani said, “We have received deeply disturbing reports than many of the civilian casualties, including of children occurred as a result strikes on homes. Such reports raise doubts about whether the Israeli airstrikes have been in accordance with international humanitarian law.”

Israel says preparations are under way for a possible ground attack, with tanks and artillery massed along the border and some 33,000 reservists mobilized out of 40,000 approved by the cabinet.

Protests against the attack on Gaza have continued around the world and in large cities around the United States.

The Gaza Strip is a densely populated area in Palestine with a population of over 1.657 million. Citizens who have resources and money have been leaving the area. The poor will not be able to leave the Gaza strip which will result in more killing by the Israelis.
